Q. Does the state accept EMT & Fire Training Continuing Education Courses?

A. EMT & Fire Training continuing education courses are CAPCE accredited and accepted by the NREMT. You should confirm with your state EMS office that they accept CAPCE accredited Continuing Education.

The State of Colorado accepts candidates for certification who have a current NREMT or NRAEMT certificate. Completion of our courses allows students to take the NREMT or NRAEMT tests to become nationally certified.

The state of Colorado does not consider itself a "National Registry State," however, individuals who hold a current National Registry status are eligible to be licensed as a Colorado EMT or AEMT. The National Registry must be obtained for a person to apply for initial certification.

Colorado requires that applicants for EMT be over 18 years of age, legal citizens of the US, and submit to a CBI or FBI fingerprint and criminal history check. To recertify for EMS in the State of Colorado, you must meet the requirements for continuing education or refresher course and skills verification by a Colorado state-recognized EMS education program representative or Colorado medical director OR maintain National Registry Certification with the NREMT. We offer a 24 Hour refresher for the EMT, a 36 Hour Refresher for the AEMT, and a 48 Hour Refresher for the Paramedic. They are fully accepted by the NREMT and are CAPCE accredited. These online refreshers meet the actual requirements of the NREMT to be counted as an official refresher.
